About the Event

BBQ for Building is an annual fundraising event benefiting Habitat Birmingham’s housing ministry. Event proceeds help to build and sale a house in partnership with a family in need of quality, affordable housing. (Habitat houses are not given away.)

 

BBQ for Building is focused on family fun, community involvement and great food. Grilling and cooking teams prepare their favorite dishes to share with event attendees ranging from barbecue, sausage, chicken, and hamburgers to stew, chili, soups, and desserts. Ticket purchasers are eligible to vote for their favorite dish. Top scoring teams in each category (determined by People’s Choice voting) receive a cash prize. 2nd place winners in each category receive a trophy. Winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m.

Event Tickets 

Tickets are $20 each. Kids under 10 enter free. Ticket purchases made online before March 24 are $2 off. Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of event. Each ticket includes food, beverage, live music, face painting, moon bounce and kid’s Home Depot workshop. Ticket purchases are non-refundable.

 

T-Shirts

Event t-shirts can be purchased online or on event day for $10, while supplies last.

Teams (registration opens March 1)

Teams of up to four people select to participate in one or all food categories. Team registration fee includes team gear, up to 4 t-shirts, and event entry. Each team member receives an arm band at check-in on event day. Team gear includes supplies needed to share samples of signature dishes to event attendees: serving cups, forks, gloves, paper towels, trash bags. Registration fees are non-refundable.

Established in 1987, Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry serving Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker Counties. The organization is dedicated to making quality, affordable housing solutions available to low-income families. To date, Habitat Birmingham has provided over 675 families with the opportunity of homeownership through zero percent interest mortgages on newly built or rehabilitated homes and aided over 600 households with critical home repairs, totaling more than 1,275 families served in the Greater Birmingham area.
