BBQ FOR BUILDING April 27, 2013 Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham will host the fifth annual BBQ for Building at the Habitat ReStore in Irondale. Dozens of teams will compete in a barbeque cook-off for the title of Grand Champion or People’s Choice winner. There will be fun for the entire family with live music, a children’s area & moon bounces for the kids to enjoy. All proceeds go toward the funding of Habitat for Humanity’s housing programs. Click here to register a team or visit www.bbqforbuilding.com to purchase your tickets or for more details. WOMEN BUILD April-May 2013 Women Build is a house funded and built by women. Help build a house alongside hundreds of women in the community in honor or in memory of special women in your life. It empowers women to learn construction skills, develop friendships and see positive results of their efforts and contributions – all to eliminate substandard housing and encourage family stability. Find out more details on Women Build and how you can be involved here. HOME BUILDERS BLITZ May 2-9, 2013 Home Builders Blitz engages professional homebuilders, and experts and suppliers in the home-building industry, to build multiple houses simultaneously in one week. This annual house-building event increases Habitat Birmingham’s house building capacity by continuing regular build schedules while professional home builders coordinate and execute the Blitz doing what they do best — organizing subs and suppliers to build houses. More details on the event and how you can participate are located here . STUDENTS FOR CHANGE July 9 – 27, 2013 Youth are invited to make a difference in their community over summer vacation. During Students for Change, we will make critical repairs to existing homes –some houses will need ramps built while others will need leaky roofs patched, fresh coats of paint, and some landscaping. Such repairs help revitalize the community as a whole by improving the exterior appearance while also serving the needs of the homeowner. No prior construction experience or knowledge is necessary. A trained Habitat Construction Site Supervisor and AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leader will be on site offering instruction, safety orientation, and guidance throughout the project. A flyer on this initiative is attached. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS December 2013 Home for the Holidays is an annual 10-day house building tradition in partnership with a media sponsor and 10 organizations with one common goal – enabling a deserving family to purchase a ‘Home for the Holidays’. Partners participate in house construction and their organization is highlighted through television advertising. Find out more information Click here. ADVENT BUILD & BUILDING ON FAITH Advent and Lenten Seasons Annually The Advent Build and Building On Faith encourage congregations of all faiths and sizes to help in the construction of a house. These annual initiatives help congregations reach their goals of ministry and home missions by offering opportunity to share God’s love. It’s a tangible way for congregations to put their faith into action and reach beyond church walls to serve. Sponsors make a financial contribution, provide volunteer labor for a minimum of one day of house construction and commit to prayer support throughout the build. More details are available here.
