![]() As part of their partnership with Habitat, homeowners must complete 300 hours of “sweat equity”, including a series of education workshops. In 2013, Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity opened its Homeowner Workshop Center in Irondale, next door to the Habitat ReStore on Crestwood Boulevard. The Center, made possible through grants from by the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, State Farm and Wells Fargo, enables Habitat to offer workshops to the public, in addition to Habitat partner families. Habitat’s Homeowner Workshop Center is located at 7954-A Crestwood Boulevard in Irondale. Habitat’s workshops will open to the public in the spring. For updates on our workshops, sign up below: Current Homeowner Workshops: • Understanding a Mortgage - Learn what goes in to a mortgage, including escrow accounts. Find out how the elderly and disabled can apply for property tax exemption. • Protecting Your Home – Explore important aspects of fire and tornado safety, as well as various aspects of homeowner’s insurance. • Financial Planning for Your Future – Understand the component’s of your credit score/report and develop tools to help you manage your money and implement a monthly budget. • Basic Home Repair - Learn how to repair and maintain household items in this hands-on, interactive class. The class will focus on fundamental tasks such as patching drywall, painting, repairing toilets, maintaining lawns, and pest control. |
